Bridges Through Yoga with the support of Devanadi School of Yoga and Wellness presents Yoga and Anti-Racism Conversation Series
Our current times are calling white people forward to face truths that push them out of their comfort zones towards shame, fear, and guilt about racism. Yogis are often considering how to ‘be the change’ and in this moment may be asking ‘how?’ Long held beliefs do not change overnight but acknowledging there is a problem and actively working to change it is the hard work that will last a lifetime. Yoga and Anti-Racism conversations are an opportunity for you to move your body to create a safe space within yourself and have an honest talk about race and racism to keep the work moving forward.
Each week you’ll be led (by James Orione, Black yoga teacher, activist, and founder of Bridges Through Yoga) through yoga and breathing practices, guided relaxation, and anti-racism conversations based on passages from the books So You Want to Talk About Race, My Grandmother’s Hands, and Me and White Supremacy. There is no required reading to attend but the excerpt will be sent prior to the workshop and feel free to attend one or all. The instructor will provide excerpts for participants to be read during class. These events will be held outdoors, social distancing and other COVID precautions are required to keep us all safe and healthy. Classes will also be offered via zoom for those who wish to attend but are not able to be there in person.
